What is a good sunscreen for my baby?

by Jeffrey Scholten on February 28, 2020

Protect young children from the sun
There are quite a few misunderstandings about sunscreen for babies. First some important must-knows. Which factor is best to choose, because factor 50 is not necessarily the best. And which ingredients are better to avoid.

We don't have to explain to you as a parent that it is really very important to protect your baby well from the sun. It is best to keep your baby out of the sun as much as possible, but everyone knows that this is not always possible. So, take a good sunscreen when taking a walk in the sun or by the pool next to a trendy swim diaper and sun hat!

A good sunscreen is a must, even if you are in the shade. Your baby's skin is still very thin and not so well developed that it can already protect itself against UV radiation. It is therefore best to always rub your baby before going outside.

Which protection factor do I need?
The higher the protection factor, the better, right? No that's not entirely true. There is only a very minimal difference in protection between protection factor 30 and protection factor 50. Screen factor 30 protects for 97% and factor 50 for 98%. So you are never 100% protected against UV radiation. In a sense, a higher factor offers a kind of false security.

Tip! Especially smear, smear, smear!
Be especially careful with the sunscreen when you rub your baby. Apply the cream generously, because only then will it provide good protection.

Avoid chemical filters in sunscreens
Not only with sunscreen, but with all baby care products you should pay close attention to what is in it. Avoid chemical filters such as octyl methoxycinnamate, oxybenzone, avobenzone and octocrylene. These additives are often perceived as "pleasant", because the sunscreen spreads easily, absorbs well into the skin and leaves no white haze. But these ingredients are absorbed into the skin. So pay attention to this!

Good filters are zinc and oxide titanium dioxide, but they can leave a white haze.

Important to know when using sunscreen
  • Is your child under 6 months old? First go to the doctor to discuss the use of the sunscreen. The skin of these little ones is still very fragile.
  • Avoid the sun as much as possible between ten and two o'clock. Then the sun is at its strongest.
  • Are you going into the sun? Then apply your baby at least 15 minutes in advance. Then the sunscreen can absorb well and protect optimally. Reapply the sunscreen every two hours.
  • It is advisable to take other sun protection measures in addition to the application, such as wearing clothes and a sun hat.

Attitude sunscreen for your baby
We all want to enjoy the nice sun, but we must not forget to protect the skin well against burning. Attitude anti-sunscreen, protection factor 30, also helps protect the little ones. This way you little one can enjoy a sunny day and they are well protected.

The Attitude sunscreen is made of 100% natural minerals and is therefore ecologically very responsible. It is also fragrance-free and hypoallergenic. This baby sunscreen is smooth and leaves no streaks. That makes this sunscreen a nice and safe anti-sunscreen for the little ones.
